Hops, barley and innovation: join us at the Libramont Agricultural Fair!

On the occasion of the Libramont Agricultural Fair, the Interreg TOMORR’HOP and BRASS’HOP BIO projects invite you to discover the challenges and innovations that will shape the brewing supply chains of tomorrow. Visitors will be able to meet the partners of both projects at a shared stand and explore a demonstration micro hop yard set up on the Fair site.

Adapting hop cultivation to climate change

Periods of drought and extreme heat are increasingly affecting hop growth. The Interreg France-Wallonia-Flanders TOMORR’HOP project develops and tests innovative and sustainable practices designed to reduce the effects of water and heat stress on this crop: efficient irrigation, mulching, cover crops, flower strips and optimized crop protection treatments. The project also encourages exchanges between producers, researchers and industry stakeholders in France, Wallonia and Flanders.

Structuring an organic brewing supply chain in the Greater Region

At the same time, the Interreg Greater Region BRASS’HOP BIO project aims to develop a sustainable organic brewing supply chain across the Greater Region. Farmers, processors, brewers and researchers are working together on topics such as local hop and barley varieties, raw material processing and the recovery of by-products. The project promotes exchanges between stakeholders in France, Wallonia, Luxembourg and Germany.

A showcase for the brewing supply chain in Libramont

The demonstration micro hop yard installed on the Fair site will give visitors a hands-on opportunity to discover the practices and innovations developed through both projects. Activities and discussions with the project partners will be offered throughout the four days of the Fair.

To mark the occasion, a competition will be organized for producers. Several quality analyses will be offered as prizes:

  • for hops: an analysis of alpha acid content and the essential oil profile;
  • for barley: an analysis covering moisture content, protein content, test weight, grain sizing and the Hagberg falling number.

A great opportunity to meet and talk with the project partners, while discovering how cross-border cooperation is helping to build more resilient, sustainable and local brewing supply chains.
